Know the Score and help tackle bowel cancer
April is bowel cancer awareness month so what better time to make sure you know the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer.
We’ve joined forces with several other leading bowel cancer charities to raise awareness of the key symptoms of the disease through the Know the Score campaign.
The campaign features a number of famous faces from the world of football, including 1966 World Cup winner Martin Peters and current England player James Milner. A new silver ‘Star of Hope’ badge has been created to mark the campaign.
“I am pleased to support the Know the Score campaign in order to help promote the awareness of bowel cancer.
I hope the campaign and the launch of the badge helps to highlight that bowel cancer affects people of all ages and I encourage people to see a doctor at the first sign of any symptoms.” James Milner
The campaign is also being supported by the League Managers Association, Professional Footballers Association and Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
Know your body
Bowel cancer can affect men and women of all ages but is most common in the over 50s. If you notice any of the following and they last longer than three weeks, make an appointment to see your GP:
- Bleeding from the bottom without any obvious reason
- A persistent change in bowel habit to looser or more frequent bowel movements
- A lump in your tummy or tummy pain, especially if it’s severe
The chances are it won’t be cancer, but it’s better to play safe.
